Hey, I’m Gen. đź‘‹ I’m a New York City-based Communications professional and have worked in public relations, brand + creative marketing, and editorial for 15+ years. As a former editor, I take a journalist-first lens to all of my work, and have a soft spot for lifestyle brands that enhance consumers’ daily lives.
My work focuses on companies in the home category. Most recently, I was the Senior Manager, Head of Communications + PR for real estate platform Opendoor. There, I had a hand in all things Comms + PR: External (Employer Brand, Consumer, Brand, Corporate, Executive, Crisis, Industry, and Local) and Internal (Executive, Employee Engagement). I supported our quarterly earnings, led company-first data reports that garnered national media recognition, and built spokespeople into trusted real estate experts. I even increased earned feature coverage by 70% from 2022 to 2023 and inserted the brand into first-time outlets.
Before Opendoor, I led PR efforts on the agency side at SGPRSGPR and Sharp Think. My work spanned women’s health (the Instagrammable women’s health clinic Tia or the viral body hair disruptor darling Billie), interior design (leading kitchen & bath company KOHLER and luxury marketplace 1stdibs), lifestyle & decor (the artistic and thoughtfully-designed Otherland) candles and Headquarters, the scalp care brand from Harry’s Labs), and and many categories in-between.
My public relations work has made it to award submissions on the brand and agency side, and my behind-the-scenes award submissions have led to recognitions in top advertising outlets like Ad Age. My editorial work has been seen on ApartmentTherapy.com, Seventeen.com, Cosmopolitan.com, TheMuse.com, Ed2010.com, InteriorDesign.net, LuxeSource.com, and in The Her Campus Guide to College Life. I’ve also freelanced for Glamour and interned for O, The Oprah Magazine, Town & Country, and Floor Covering Weekly. I’ve also spoken on panels for New York Women In Communications, Hofstra University, and Her Campus Media and have been quoted in articles on TheMuse.com, NYWICI.org, and HerCampus.com.

what people say about me
“Gennifer first impressed me when she interviewed me years ago for HerCampus after my book came out and she showed up super-prepared. She then interned for my co-author and me to help us promote our book. We stayed in touch and, a couple years later, when I went to start a communications department at SANDOW, Gennifer was my very first hire. She is preternaturally mature for her age, a great writer and editor, fast learner, team player and generally a joy to be around. I think the world of Gen and she would be an incredible asset to any team.” — Jessica Kleiman, VP, Global Communications at Peloton
“I had the pleasure of working alongside Gennifer at SANDOW for two years, and her ability to take any given assignment and distill it into an ordered, strategic plan for action continually impressed me. Not only one of the most organized people I have ever met, Gen is one of those rare people who understands what you are trying to say even before you’ve completely formed your own thought; she is a gifted communicator. This translates directly into her writing and certainly into her project management skills, which are formidable. Juggling doesn’t do it justice. Not least, Gen could easily moonlight as a comedian—she brings joy and laughter everywhere she goes!” — Meghan Edwards, Director of Digital Content and Strategy, Center for Architecture (AIANY)
